I Want a Woman to be President

I want us to elect a woman as president. I also want a president who believes that government work is hard. I want a president who has breathed tear gas and been arrested. I want a president who has been responsible for people getting paid. I want a president who has spoken at the funeral of someone who died in service to their country, as well as a loved one who died from AIDS or a drug overdose. I want a president who values the power of education. I want a president who knows how to shoot a pistol and a rifle accurately, but who owns neither. I want a president who has been hospitalized. I want a president who comforts strangers when no cameras are around. I want a president who understands that Black Lives Matter is not a zero-sum proposition. I want a president who has accompanied a young woman having an abortion. I want a president who has hired and promoted a single mother with an adopted child. I want a president who has held the hand of a person breathing their last. I want a president who knows the power of prayer, and who has prayed with atheists. I want a president who respects the terrible power of our military. I want a president who believes that all work is noble. I want a president who has been married more than once. I want a president who has not always had everything under control. I want a president who will uphold the rule of law and put an end to policies that promote the mass incarceration of young men of color. I want a president who reads novels, can name her favorite painter, and goes to drag shows. I want a president who can explain the infield fly rule. I want a president who still feels the pain from something that happened 40 years ago. I want a president who will inspire hope in my daughters, and who will work tirelessly to provide them opportunity and protect them from asshats, bigots, and fuckwads.
